Frequency reconfigurable patch antenna for 4G LTE applications

    Get PDF
A compact printed multi-band frequency reconfigurable patch antenna for 4G LTE applications is presented in this paper (50 x 60 x 1.6 mm3). The antenna consists of W-shaped and Inverted-U shaped patch lines connected in a Tree-shape on the front side of the antenna. The back-side of the antenna contains a 90°-tilted T-shaped strip connected with an Inverted-L shaped strip which is shorted with a patch on the front side for increasing the electrical length to cover lower frequency bands. Frequency reconfigurability is achieved by inserting three switches i.e., PIN diodes. The most critical part of this work is the designing of RLC-based DC line circuits for providing the DC biasing to the PIN diodes used as switches and inserting them at optimum locations. This antenna is reconfigurable among eight different 4G LTE frequency bands including 0.9 GHz, 1.4 GHz, 1.5 GHz, 1.6 GHz, 1.7 GHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.6 GHz, 3.5 GHz and WLAN band 2.5 GHz. The antenna exhibits different radiation patterns having a different direction of peak gain at different frequencies and for different switching combinations. The antenna is simulated with CST, and a prototype is fabricated to compare the measured and simulated results with good accuracy

Chest X-ray findings in COVID-19: A Pictorial Review

    Get PDF
Introduction: Chest X-ray and Computed tomography(CT) of chest play an important role in the diagnosis and management of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). As chest CT may not be readily available in most clinical setups X-ray Chest plays a pivotal role in such clinical scenarios and an irreplaceable initial radiological investigation of these patients. Objective: The objective of this article is to identify and elaborate the commonest appearances and patterns of lung changes on Chest X rays in COVID-19 positive patients confirmed on RT-PCR COVID testing. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study of Chest X-ray findings of 294  RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted across 3 hospitals (Rawalpindi institute of urology (RIU), Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and Holy Family Hospital (HFH)) from March 30th, 2020 till April 30th, 2020. CXR was analyzed for consolidation patches, ground-glass opacification (GGO), multi-lobe involvement, bilateral distribution, and pleural fluid. The chest X-ray with positive findings was graded into mild, moderate, and severe grades using BSTI (British Society of Thoracic imaging) guidelines. Results: Mean age of study patients was 45.5 years. Among the study population 230 (78.2 %) were male and 64 (21.8%) female. On baseline chest X rays, consolidations were the commonest finding (n=84, 28.5%), followed by ground-glass opacity (n=17, 5.7 %). The more common locations were peripheral and lower zones, and the majority had bilateral lung involvement (Table 1). Pleural effusions were found in only 5 of the study patients.  Among these patients, 187 (63.6%) had an initial normal chest X-ray. Moreover, 35, 34, and 38patients had mild, moderate, and severe diseases respectively. Conclusion: Chest X-ray is an important initial radiological investigation for COVID 19 patients and plays an important role in the management during the course of the disease

CoNLoCNN: Exploiting Correlation and Non-Uniform Quantization for Energy-Efficient Low-precision Deep Convolutional Neural Networks

    Get PDF
In today's era of smart cyber-physical systems, Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have become ubiquitous due to their state-of-the-art performance in complex real-world applications. The high computational complexity of these networks, which translates to increased energy consumption, is the foremost obstacle towards deploying large DNNs in resource-constrained systems. Fixed-Point (FP) implementations achieved through post-training quantization are commonly used to curtail the energy consumption of these networks. However, the uniform quantization intervals in FP restrict the bit-width of data structures to large values due to the need to represent most of the numbers with sufficient resolution and avoid high quantization errors. In this paper, we leverage the key insight that (in most of the scenarios) DNN weights and activations are mostly concentrated near zero and only a few of them have large magnitudes. We propose CoNLoCNN, a framework to enable energy-efficient low-precision deep convolutional neural network inference by exploiting: (1) non-uniform quantization of weights enabling simplification of complex multiplication operations; and (2) correlation between activation values enabling partial compensation of quantization errors at low cost without any run-time overheads. To significantly benefit from non-uniform quantization, we also propose a novel data representation format, Encoded Low-Precision Binary Signed Digit, to compress the bit-width of weights while ensuring direct use of the encoded weight for processing using a novel multiply-and-accumulate (MAC) unit design
